Rev. Kathryn called the meeting to order.

October Minutes
Edie Wilkins moved to accept the minutes with noted changes, Dean Buchman seconded. Minutes approved unanimously.
Financial Report and Finance Committee-Beth Drinan
· Pledges down a bit, but have made up ground during last couple of weeks.
· Expenses are in good shape. Overall doing a good job.
· Stewardship Sunday, Nov 22. Stewardship Bulletin updated for 2010; two changes in time (services, choir practice); add acolytes.
· Special slide show presentation for Stewardship Sunday.
· Proposed 2010 Budget didn't change significantly; most expenses remained at the previous year's figures.
· Operating budget is $4,400 less than last year.
· Building fund stands at $3,300 less, driven by special transfers, e.g., Christ the King roof
· Official letter received re: Christ Campus's tax-exempt status. 100 percent exemption for 2009; will apply for correction for 2009. Must apply yearly for tax exempt status. Form is available at the county assessment office.
· Additional signer required for checking account in light of Rev. Kathryn's sabbatical.
· John Shroba moved to authorize Edie Wilkins as additional signature, Nancy Johnson seconded. Motion approved unanimously.
Rev Kathryn's sabbatical
· The Bishop endorsed Rev. Kathryn's sabbatical request. Will receive written approval.
· Rev. Kathryn, among other issues, discussed Taize services with the Bishop and how it serves the public. Nearly half of attendees come from outside community.
· Rev. Kathryn discussed upcoming sabbatical plans and her primary goal of researching the dynamics of high-growth and start-up churches and bringing the knowledge back to St. Edward's.
· Nancy Johnson noted the need for a back-up plan for worst-case scenarios, especially potential legal issues.
· Rev. Kathryn said her phone has been approved for the Internet and text messaging, and she will be as close as a telephone call.
· Rev. Kathryn will officially announce her sabbatical plans at Stewardship Sunday.
· Rev. Kathryn will serve another term as Dean at the invitation of the Bishop.
· St. Edward's will host Deans and Bishops at Christ Campus in February.
· Rev. Kathryn invited Vestry members for dinner at Christ Campus for its December 14th meeting at 6:00 p.m.
· The Building and Grounds committee will be cancelled that night.
Building and Grounds-John Shroba
· All SECEC equipment is winterized.
Mueller bid on barn roof is not in hand; Mueller is not returning phone calls. Secretary Pat is trying to keep in contact with him.
· Rev. Kathryn will email Vestry if bid is acceptable (see Addendum).
· Drywall is still needed in closet.
· New bids received for snow plow and possible snow removal; seeking additional bids.
· John Shroba will run mower one last time to clean up leaves at St. Edward's.
Community Life-Edie Wilkins
· Thanksgiving potluck is November 22nd. People need to come early that morning.
· Dean Buchman and Edie Wilkins will bring turkeys. Dee Goodale Mikosz and Rev. Kathryn will bring ham.
· Sunday, Dec 6 is the dinner for the foyer groups, open to everyone in Parish. Hanne is in charge. $30 a person, family style
· St. Edward's Christmas outreach will be the Heifer Project. More information will be forthcoming.
· Four Joliet churches, including St. Edward's, will participate in the AIDs Quilt. It will hang in St. Edward's from November 20 to the 28th. Richard Lundgren will publicize the quilt. Harrah's is underwriting the project.
· Pilgrimage Retreat - Dee Goodale Mikosz said it was a blessed and rewarding weekend. The featured speaker discussed sexually-transmitted diseases. She noted mentors do a lot of learning along with students.
Liturgy review- Rev. Kathryn
· Peace liturgy is meant to assemble the worshipping parish community; makes sense to do it at beginning of the service.
· Magnetic Church leaders suggested the welcome take place before church starts.
Future Now-Richard Lundgren
· Edie sent 37 flyers with personal notes to church members who haven't been to church for some time. She and Rev. Kathryn mined old mailing lists. At least seven to nine people have come to church since they received the flyer.
· Door hangers on December 12 will be another big project. Hangers will be printed at Kinkos. Edie will serve pizza and pop back at the church.
· Six people attended Magnetic Church weekend on Friday; seven attended on Saturday. Issues covered church greeter activities, handicapped signage and church attendee statistics.
· Kathryn noted these activities plus welcoming cards in the pews require someone to step up to the responsibility.
· Rev. Kathryn moved these issues to Future Now.
Committee Meeting Times - Kathryn White
· In January 2010, Vestry will move its meeting to the first Monday of the month.
· Future Now will meet on the second Monday at 6 p.m.
· Finance Committee will meet on the Sunday before Vestry meeting.
· Community Life and Buildings and Grounds will move to the first Monday at 6:00 p.m. preceding Vestry.
· Kathryn requested that subcommittees keep their reports as brief as possible during Vestry.
Vestry Size - Kathryn White
· St. Edwards is well established in its governing makeup.
· Six Vestry members and two wardens are basic requirements for an Episcopal parish.
· St. Edward's has nine Vestry slots, one unfilled plus a one-year high school student Vestry position, which is currently empty.
· Vestry membership number changes have to be done at the Annual Meeting because it changes the church's bylaw.
· Vestry members must take a one-year break between positions.
· Vestry currently needs to fill a three three-year terms and one two-year term vacated when Jack stepped into the vacated warden position.
Future Dates
· Taize is November 9.
· Soup and Study is November 18th.
· Vestry dinner is December 14th, 6:00 p.m. at Christ Campus.
Deacon Dee dismissed Vestry.
Special Vestry Meeting, November 22, 2009
Stewardship Sunday

Absent: Pat Shroba, Nancy Johnson
Rev. Kathryn handed out copies of the Mueller Bid for the Christ Campus barn roof, noting both don't include meeting the code for occupancy.
· Edie Wilkins made a motion to accept the $49,600 bid with both options. Dean Buchman seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
· Edie Wilkins made a motion to transfer the necessary funds to cover the roofing project. Pamela Nunn seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
· Edie Wilkins made a motion to approve Dean Buchman and John Shroba as back-up to Mueller Roofing. Pamela Nunn seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
· Pamela Nunn suggested that the project bids be negotiated and that green technology be a possibility.
